Welcome back! Thanks for dropping in with us today. Pull up a chair and a snuggly blanket and let’s get down to business.
Another work week has come and gone, and we are amping up to get down to wedding business this weekend, and what better way to do that, then with First Dance Friday! For those of you who don’t know we are working to compile a running list of the most kick ass wedding songs we can find to make sure you pick the perfect first dance song for your wedding. You can thank us later, yes we really are too kind #HumbleBrag. If you haven’t been following along, you can go catch up now, we will refill our bowl of popcorn while you’re gone, it’s really no trouble!
The song we chose this week is You and Me by You + Me, which is a duo of P!ink who has sold over 40 million albums since she came onto the music scene with her statement pink hair, and Dallas Green who began his solo career under the name City and Colour in 2005 after the breakup of Alexisonfire, a successful post-hardcore band. These two may not seem like two people who would join forces and record a song together, especially one you would consider for your first dance, but give it a chance, trust us!
This song is a folk style that combines the unique and powerful voices of both P!nk and Dallas Green. The song is raw and emotional, and everything you would want your first dance song to be. Okay, okay, you can listen to the song now, we’ll still be over here eating our popcorn and get our favourite elements ready for you.
You and me we belong together, just like a breath needs the air (0:22)
You and your new husband or wife are perfect for each other, and that is why you’re getting married. You are perfect for each other, two puzzle pieces that fit together perfectly. Just like one puzzle piece needs another to complete the puzzle, the two of you need each other.
Our hearts march to the same beat (0:53)
Just like when you see the waitress coming to your table with your chips and giant bowl of guac and your heart beats a little faster, that’s how you’re going to feel standing at the front of the altar to declare your love for each other in front of your closest people (but if it’s too fast or lasts too long you should probably see your doctor to be safe). You are on the same path together, and on the same level. You know each other more than anyone else and that bond is something really special that you should cherish and celebrate.
Well some days are better than others, but I fear no thing as long as you’re with me (1:43)
You promised to love each other in sickness and in health, and you know that not everyday will be as filled with love and happiness as your wedding day. Some days will be hard, and there will be highs and lows in your marriage, but as long as you are tackling your struggles as a united force, you can get through anything together.
Someone who will be there when you start to fall apart, guiding your direction when you’re riding through the dark. Oh that’s you and me (2:29)
Just like when you get good news, your husband or wife is the first person you want to tell, the same is when things are going in the other direction. You know that your person will be there for you to help you when you fall down, because you are their person and that’s what they do (Think Cristina Yang and Meredith Grey, all the feels). When you are lost, they will help you find the way. That’s what you do for each other and that’s pretty amazing!

You and Me is a song with a great message of the deep emotional connection that you have together. Today you are getting married (remember you are imaging your wedding day), and the relationship you have was already strong, but it is getting stronger and stronger everyday.
We hope you liked our song choice for this week and you were able to drift away to a daydream of your wedding day. Let us know if there were other lyrics that you loved that we didn’t highlight here today. As always let us know what songs you would like to see in future editions of First Dance Fridays, we love to hear from you.
Enjoy those PSLs this weekend and we will see you here again next week, same time, same place.
